Androids Verify Apps feature to continuously Monitor for Malware in Apps

Androids Verify Apps feature to continuously Monitor for Malware in Apps

Google has updated its Verify Apps feature that was used to scan apps while installing. Now with this update the app will come in to play whenever a new app is installed (APK file) from other than the play store. The verify app will now run continuously as a background security service and will keep a track of all the running apps and will be monitoring them so that there is no malicious activities.

The updated app will now track malware even if the app is manually installed on to the Smart phone and it will be working on all the apps that are downloaded from the Google Play store also. This will give the users more freedom to download and install app on to their Smart phone. Google also claimed that only 0.18 % of installs in the last year was found on the malware scanner and also said that it will be nice to know if it is there on your device.

Verify apps—has been used more than 4 billion times to check apps at the time of install. This enhancement will take that protection even further, using Android’s powerful app scanning system developed by the Android security and Safe Browsing teams,” Rich Cannings, an Android security engineer, mentioned in a blog post.

Most of the Android Smart phone users won’t see the warnings that the Verify apps system shows up, so Cannings said that the new system provides an extra measure of defense against malicious apps. Researchers have found that developers will sometimes send updates to installed apps, adding malicious or otherwise unwanted functionality.

So the update will be on the Google Play store soon and the users who have already downloaded the app will be getting an update. This is a good move from Google to protect the Smart phones from malware reckoning the increase in the malware affected apps.
