COOLPAD’S FRAMELESS PHONE TO ARRIVE SOON
Coolpad is a Chinese smartphone maker well known for its low-cost handsets; it has a strong user base in low-spec devices. Recently the company had announced that they will enter the Indian smartphone market with the devices priced from Rs.5,000 to Rs.20,000. It also announced Varun Sharma as the head of Indian operations; he worked at Flipkart before joining Coolpad.
They will sell the smartphones under the brand name ‘Dazen’ and the company wants to be in the top three smartphone brands in India. Coolpad announced that they had patented a Frameless smartphone, which will arrive in India by the end of 2015. There is no much information about the device but the company said “This patented technology can render the visual effect of a smartphone’s screen to be completely frameless through a manufacturing process while delivering a seamless, edge-to-edge visual experience to the end users”.
“The smartphone around world are asking for narrow frames and higher screen to surface aspect ratios. Our engineers are taking it to the next level by building an entirely frameless design. India will be among the first markets in the world we will launch this innovation in”, said Mr. Varun.
Recently Qihoo 360 and Coolpad formed a joint venture ‘QiKU’, where Coolpad will look after the hardware side, and the software part is powered by Qihoo 360. Qihoo 360 also partnered with Haier, and Huawei to launch smartphones. Qihoo 360 is the maker of ‘360 Security’ mobile app. Coolpad launched few products in India through Spice brand. It will interesting to see lot more Chinese brands entering the Indian smartphone market.
